Consider this when choosing your departing city:
Parking cost - Rates can range from $5 to more than $15 per day at other airports. Parking at LCH is FREE!
Fuel to and from a departure city other than Lake Charles.
Mileage on your vehicle - According to the American Automobile Association (AAA)vehicle operating costs are approximately .14 cents per mile. This means that a road trip to/from Houston IAH Airport costs around $40.
If sending employees to other cities to depart – consider the hourly cost of their wages as well as liabilities of the company driving to and from another city.
Convenience – While not as easy to put a dollar figure on, your time is certainly worth something. There are virtually no airports that are as convenient as your local airport.
Tips for finding lower airfares:
Shop Early, Shop Often – Its important to shop early in order to receive the best fares, likewise, its important that you continually check the fares if the first quote you receive is not to your liking. Airlines are constantly changing fares to match the demand and competing airlines. With the airline emphasis on the Internet, it is easier than ever to check fares on a frequent basis.
Try to book at least 14 days in advance of travel dates - By doing so, you are less likely to receive higher fares. This is because airlines typically have only few seats on a given flight priced at their lowest fare. As seats are purchased, the fares continually become higher as the aircraft fills up.
Avoid last minute purchases of Fares - These are normally the highest fares because the majority of the seats on the aircraft are sold and the airlines know that if you are buying last minute, you are in a crunch (Example: you may need to get to an important business meeting etc.) and you will be willing to pay a higher fare.
Whenever possible include a Saturday night stay – Airlines often view this as a leisure fare and may offer a lower price. On the contrary, if you do not include a Saturday night stay airlines often view this as a business fare and charge more given that businees travelers are more likely to pay a higher price.
Begin travel on Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday – Fares are generally lower on off peak travel days.
Avoid Departures on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday
Try booking flights that depart and arrive early in the morning or late in the evening – Off peak travel times have less demand and airlines generally offer these flights at a lower cost.
